ETR Associates' 2012 Mary Nelson Award Winners

ETR Associates recently announced the 2012 winners of the annual Mary Nelson Award: project coordinator Kay Todd and research associate Seow Ling Ong. The Mary Nelson Award was established in 2008 by ETR Associates as a tribute to the former Publisher and Co-Chief Executive Officer, Mary Nelson, in acknowledgement of her devotion and contributions to ETR Associates, and as a permanent remembrance of her work. The Mary Nelson Award recognizes a staff member each year who best exemplifies outstanding dedication, teamwork, enthusiasm and commitment to ETR's mission.


About Kay Todd, MSW: Ms. Todd has over thirty-three years of experience working in the field of human sexuality, pregnancy prevention, and STD and HIV/AIDS prevention education. She has been a staff member at ETR since the agency was founded in 1981, and served as project coordinator and trainer for the California Office of Family Planning (OFP) Statewide Training and Technical Assistance contract for over 28 years. She had responsibility for oversight of that project, including coordinating program planning and supervising the implementation and successful completion of all project deliverables.

Ms. Todd is currently the project coordinator for the Promoting Science-Based Approaches (PSBA) project. As part of the ETR team, she coordinated the development of the Safer Choices Training of Trainers, was a trainer when it was delivered to PSBA projects, and has provided technical assistance to local projects to support them in delivering their Safer Choices Training of Educators. She is also coordinating the training component for the Reducing the Risk online training for educators, RTRworks! Ms. Todd has developed and provided educator trainings on numerous evidence-based curricula, including Reducing the Risk, Making Proud Choices, Making a Difference and Draw the Line/Respect the Line. She has provided trainings to health educators, teachers and other health professionals from around the United States on pregnancy and STD/HIV prevention education, program planning, and curriculum development and implementation for both classroom and community settings. Ms. Todd earned her Masters in Social Work from Sacramento State University.


About Seow Ling Ong, MSW: Ms. Ong obtained her Masters in Social Work (with an emphasis on research) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2001. She joined ETR Associates in 2001, and has been a research associate and data manager on projects primarily involving school health and, more recently, in the field of tobacco control. Ms. Ong is skilled in both quantitative and qualitative analysis methods, as well as in database management. Prior to joining ETR, she had extensive experience in direct family counseling and evaluation in Singapore.
