Comprehensive Sex Education
Since our founding in 1981, ETR has been committed to promoting the sexual and reproductive health of young people and communities in the United States and internationally. We are the only agency that researches, develops, implements, evaluates, and disseminates programs and strategies to prevent HIV/AIDS and improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes. Learn more about ETR’s history and commitment to delivering HIV education, prevention services and support.
Our work in HIV, sexual, and reproductive health is based on our belief that everyone deserves access to trusted information and services related to their sexual health and development. We aim to improve the health of young people and communities by studying and addressing the influence of place, systems, and relationships on health equity.

Social Emotional Learning
As educators, we know that students’ social and emotional well-being is intricately tied to their academic success. Research shows that education promoting social and emotional learning (SEL) improves classroom behavior, increases students’ ability to manage stress and depression, and improves attitudes about themselves, others, and school.
HealthSmart, ETR's comprehensive health education program, addresses the core SEL competencies for curriculum and instruction as outlined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL):
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social awareness
- Relationship skills
- Responsible decision making
