Transforming Sexual Health Education through Developmental Science: Practitioner Toolkit

Adolescence is a time of dramatic change - biologically, physically and socially. In recent years, scientists have discovered new insights about the developing adolescent brain. Some of these insights give us cause to pause and thinking differently about our approach to working with adolescents.
There is currently little translational work to support sexual and reproductive health practitioners to translate the science of the developing adolescent brain into sexual and reproductive health programs and practice. This toolkit aims to reduce this gap. Explore the links below to explore the latest science, reflect on your current practices, and influence change in your setting.

This toolkit was designed for individuals who manage sexual and reproductive health programing in schools, health departments, community-based organizations, and other youth-serving settings or those who work with these key stakeholder groups.
This toolkit aims to build the capacity of sexual health program practitioners to:
- Describe emerging developmental science principles and their relation to sexual health programming;
- Generate enthusiasm and buy-in from key decision-makers and other stakeholders to adopt a developmental science perspective into sexual health programming; and
- Facilitate conversations around innovation and application of the developmental science principles into program planning and implementation.
