Win-River Casino Adopts Smoke-Free Policy

February 11, 2014 – California’s Clean Air Project (CCAP), a project managed by ETR, is excited to announce the Redding Rancheria Tribe’s decision to adopt a 100% smoke-free policy at the Win-River Resort & Casino. General Manager Gary Hayward cited patron and employee health as a key factor when he presented the proposed change to the  Redding Rancheria Tribal Council, which then helped the casino through the process of adopting the new policy.

ETR, UCSF to Participate In Project with the World Bank

January 28, 2014 – Research staff members from ETR and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), have been invited by the World Bank to participate in a comprehensive review of social, economic and policy determinants of adolescent sexual reproductive health in Ethiopia and another country yet to be identified. The project is a partnership with the UCSF Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. UCSF’s Claire Brindis, DrPH, is the project’s principal investigator.

ETR Wins NSF Grant to Study Role of Relationships in Mathematics Pathways of Latino/a Students

December 27, 2013 – ETR recently won a 3-year grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to study how parent-child relationships influence and are influenced by Latino/a students’ math pathways. The study is a collaboration with Florida Atlantic University, and will focus on students’ mathematics attitudes and achievements during a crucial developmental turning point: the transition from elementary to middle school.

ETR Joins CDC-DASH in Project to Prevent HIV/STD and Pregnancy in Teens

December 20, 2013 – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC-DASH) has awarded ETR a 5-year contract for a project focused on adolescent HIV/STD and pregnancy prevention. ETR will work collaboratively with funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the CDC to build capacity in selected schools and school districts around the nation to promote greater sexual health among young people.

December 19, 2013 – TeenNow California announced the late Dr. Douglas Kirby, former senior research scientist at ETR in Scotts Valley, California, has been posthumously awarded the 2013 David S. Crawford Member of the Year Award. In conferring this award upon Dr. Kirby, TeenNow California acknowledged his outstanding contribution to the organization.

Award-Winning TEC Students Invited to White House

December 11, 2013 – ETR’s TEC (Technology-Education-Community) program has gone to the White House. Marcus Cisneros and Morelia Lopez were part of the student team from Watsonville High School in California that created an award-winning college guide app. They recently returned from Washington, D.C., where they presented their design on Capitol Hill and attended a White House briefing and reception honoring their achievement.

Distance-Learning Expert Tracy Wright Joins ETR

November 8, 2013 – ETR is pleased to announce that Tracy Wright will join the agency staff as the team lead for a new 5-year professional development (PD) contract from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC-DASH). ETR will work strategically with CDC DASH to provide PD support to 36 states and local school districts and 40 DASH staff members.

Kirby Summer Internship Honors APHA 2013 Sedgwick Memorial Medal Winner

October 31, 2013 – ETR today announced its sponsorship of an annual Kirby Summer Internship named after American Public Health Association (APHA) 2013 Sedgwick Memorial Medal Winner the late Dr. Douglas Kirby. The internship will be offered to a graduate student with an interest in the field of sexual and reproductive health, including prevention programs, implementation science, online learning and research methodology.

October 9, 2013 – California’s Clear Air Project (CCAP), a project managed by ETR, recently awarded its 2013 Public Health Leadership Award. The award was given to the Redding Rancheria Tribal Government in recognition for the Tribe’s commitment to public health and for outstanding leadership in creating and enforcing a smoke-free health clinic facility.
