U=U

The goal of HIV treatment is to improve the health and well-being of people living with HIV by reducing the amount of virus in a person’s blood. ART (antiretroviral therapy) is the medicine used to treat HIV by reducing viral load. When the viral load is so low it cannot be detected by a test, it is called “undetectable.” If a person’s viral load stays undetectable, then HIV cannot be transmitted to a partner during sex, which means it is untransmittable. Learn more about this topic in the Undetectable=Untransmittable pamphlet available in the ETR Store.

PrEP

PrEP, which stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis, is an FDA-approved way for people to prevent HIV infection by using medicine in the form of an injection or pills. When used consistently, PrEP greatly reduces the risk of HIV. PrEP is a powerful prevention tool and can help reduce anxiety and stress for people at risk of contracting HIV. View “Is PrEP for You? Using PrEP to Prevent HIV” in the ETR Store to learn more.
