Personal Perspectives on Health Disparities

ETR is proud to present FREE downloads of five groundbreaking books that focus on health disparities in different communities: Blacks in America, Latinos, Asian Americans, American Indians and Alaska Natives, and Pacific Islanders.

Each book features profiles and interviews with health leaders who are members of those communities. Among them: David Satcher, MD, PhD, 16th surgeon general of the United States; Mohammad N. Akhter, MD, MPH, former executive director of the American Public Health Association; Linda Burhansstipanov, MSPH, DrPH, CHES, executive director and president of Native American Cancer Initiatives; Puaalaoklani D. Aiu, PhD, policy analyst with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; Helen Rodriguez-Trias, MD, recipient of the Presidential Citizens Medal and former president of the American Public Health Association; and Michael Bird, MSW, MPH, first American Indian president of the American Public Health Association.

Read their personal stories, their recommendations and their inspirations. Then put the practical advice they offer into practice. Their suggestions will work for every type of health provider and educator.

Series editor Bill Kane said, "I strongly believe the health profession has a social responsibility to deal with this issue." These publications are a tool that can help.
