TECC Wins National Award

The Tobacco Education Clearinghouse of California (TECC) has received an award from the National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC), an independent network of public health professionals dedicated to promoting greater understanding and awareness of public health issues. Eight California anti-tobacco outreach projects were awarded top honors in the NPHIC 2009 Awards for Excellence in Public Health Communication. TECC's entry, the "Take Charge Gold Card," won a Silver Award in the In-House Print and Graphic Specialty Projects category. The "Take Charge" card provides information about the cost of smoking and promotes the California Smokers' Helpline. TECC distributes the card to California health care providers and public health programs to give to patients and clients who smoke.

NPHIC submissions are from national, local and state public health agencies. Entries are judged on the basis of research/planning, creativity, results and use of resources. Congratulations to Q. Rafietari, Production and Distribution Manager, and other TECC staff who participated in the recent redesign of the "Take Charge Gold Card," and thanks to our funder, the California Tobacco Control Program, for submitting the entry on behalf of TECC. ETR has been managing TECC for the State of California for almost 20 years.
