Youth Curricula STEM Golf
Hands-on method of learning the skills to play and also the STEM fundamentals behind the game
Here is a great opportunity to double up STEM lessons with golf in STEM Sports' STEM Golf program. This hands-on method of learning the STEM fundamentals behind the game of golf will drive students towards their goals of not only becoming better players, but also becoming better students as they will get the answers to the “why” questions that surround the game. The STEM Golf supplemental curriculum will assist students’ growth and potential both on and off the course through eight lessons that include exercises on:
- How the rotation of the earth causes change in the atmosphere and hydrosphere, creating different climates across the globe and thus affecting a golf course and its grass.
- Gaining knowledge about gravity and/or gravitational force applied by the earth on objects directed down, which includes golf balls.
- Learning about distance and potential energy through the practice of swinging a club at different angles and speeds and thus swing radius.
- The composition of a golf ball which is often unknown yet unique, with an assist from Callaway Golf®. Students will learn why there are “dimples” on a ball and how they affect the flight and spin of the ball.
