Lesson 5: Medicines: What's the Truth?


This informational lesson helps students understand proper use and misuse, as well as effects of misuse, of over-the-counter and prescription medicines. Students learn about different types of medicines and rules for taking medicines. They practice reading label directions and analyze scenarios to distinguish between proper use and misuse.

Lesson Objectives

Students will be able to:

  1. Explain directions for correct use of over-the-counter and prescription medicines.
  2. Differentiate between proper use and misuse of over-the-counter and prescription medicines.
  3. Describe negative effects of misusing over-the-counter and prescription medicines.

Time: 45 - 60 minutes

  • AOD-2: Avoid misuse and abuse of over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
