Fact Sheets
CCAP provides fact sheets on topics related to secondhand smoke, e.g., decisions by the California Air Resources Board and economic and health impacts of smoke-free workplaces. Fact sheets are updated as needed and new fact sheets are added as they are developed. If you have and idea for a new fact sheet related to secondhand smoke and tribal casinos, please contact Crystal Mantle with your suggestion.
Tribal Casinos do not have to abide by California state law because they are sovereign entities. Casinos and gaming clubs that have banned smoking in their facilities have helped increase their gaming revenue.
The California Air Resources Board describes the negative effects of smoking, and second hand smoke.

Tribal government gaming generates important benefits across California’s economy, according to a new study conducted by Beacon Economics, a leading independent economic research firm. The study, commissioned by the California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA), surveyed gaming and non-gaming tribes across the state, including a cross section of large and small casinos in urban and rural markets with a range of amenities including hotels, restaurants, retail establishments and entertainment venues. The study finds that Indian gaming operations provide significant benefits throughout California’s economy.
