ETR Associates' Project Director Nominated for National Points of Light Award

ETR Associates' Project Director Peggy Flynn has been nominated for a prestigious national Points of Light Award from the Points of Light Institute for her life-long volunteer work as a member of the Board of Directors for the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County, literacy tutor, United Way of Santa Cruz County and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. Ms. Flynn was also recently asked to be a guest writer on the Points of Light blog and talk about volunteering. See her posting titled I Was Lucky to Come From a Family of Volunteers.

About the Points of Light Institute (formerly the Foundation): Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Points of Light Institute was founded in 1990. The organization's name came from the "thousand points of light" theme used frequently by former U.S. President George H. W. Bush, including a State of the Union Address in which he said: "We have within our reach the promise of a renewed America. We can find meaning and reward by serving some higher purpose than ourselves, a shining purpose, the illumination of a Thousand Points of Light. And it is expressed by all who know the irresistible force of a child's hand, of a friend who stands by you and stays there, a volunteer's generous gesture, an idea that is simply right." The Points of Light Institute and its expanded network include more than 250 local volunteer centers around the United States. These volunteer centers act as community hubs to connect volunteers to opportunities, work with local nonprofits and businesses to establish and improve volunteer programs, and, overall, bolster the local infrastructure for the volunteering community.
