Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Professional Development Project
The NGO Professional Development Project is part of
ETR's Training and Program Development Department.
The purpose of the NGO Professional Development Training Project is to build the capacity
of DASH-funded 601 NGOs to work effectively with their constituents to reduce health risk
behaviors among youth.
To achieve this goal ETR will:
- Conduct one to two National Training Events annually in Washington, D.C.
- Conduct Follow-up Discussion Forums
- Provide Web Resources
Training Events will include:
- Both large group and small group workshops that address the
priority training needs addressed through the needs assessment process.
- Sample topics include:
- Adapting programs for local populations
- Parent and community involvement
- Addressing health
disparities
- Youth cultural awareness
- Youth development approaches
- Building effective
collaborations with NGOs and community partners
- Program evaluation
- Characteristics of
effective programs
Content experts will partner with ETR staff to conduct workshops to ensure that the most current and
effective information and skill building is provided. Whenever possible, ETR will use experts
from NGOs themselves as a way to collaborate and share expertise amongst the funded
partners.
Training Events will take place in the Washington, D.C. area. For those NGOs living outside the
greater Washington, D.C. area, ETR will assist with travel costs to attend the Trainings.
Two to three months after a Training Event, ETR will host a web-discussion. The purpose of
the discussion will be to reinforce the learning from the previous Training Event, identify
barriers for implementing “lessons learned”, and to share additional resources.
