What We Offer Community-based Organizations & Health Departments
The Tabono Project can help community-based organizations (CBOs) and health departments (HDs) implement and evaluate HIV prevention interventions that — through scientific research — have been proven effective. Many effective, research-based interventions have been identified by CDC, packaged in user friendly kits, and made available to CDC-funded agencies. A description of these interventions can be found at www.effectiveinterventions.org.

Some of these interventions were developed for African Americans; others can be adapted for African American communities. Tabono services will focus on providing the training and technical assistance necessary for your organization to replicate, adapt, tailor and implement these effective programs.

Examples of topics for our training and technical assistance include:

  • Conducting needs assessments of your priority population;
  • Assessing your organization's readiness to implement a specific HIV prevention program;
  • Using behavioral science and logic models to select or adapt your prevention program;
  • Developing the cultural competency skills of program staff;
  • Training in specific programs and/or in the basic skills necessary for success; and,
  • Providing strategies for program evaluation.

The Tabono Project can also provide these CBA services to organizations that are using other interventions. Please contact us for more details.

How We Work
Our services begin with a sensitive interview process to determine what is wanted by an agency requesting services. The next step is to work together to develop an action plan, tailored to the unique circumstances and needs of that agency. Tabono staff and/or local consultants will provide these services by phone, email, and web-based forums and through site visits, depending on the specific needs of the CBO or HD. Tabono's staff and consultants will invest the time necessary to get acquainted with requesting agencies and the needs of the communities they serve to ensure that CBA services are appropriate and useful.
