Dr. Sugland is Co-founder and Executive Director of the Center for Applied Research and Technical Assistance (CARTA). She is recognized nationally for her work in the fields of adolescent reproductive health and transition to adulthood with particular emphasis on youth of color. Dr. Sugland has been involved in a diverse set of projects while at CARTA, including work that conceptualizes ways to engage parents and caregivers in youth programming, to a longitudinal evaluation of a subsequent pregnancy prevention program in Washington, DC. She is currently involved in work that explores the cultural significance of parent and family influences on adolescent sexuality for African-American and Latino youth; and in work that examines the role of structural racism in promoting racial/ethnic disparities in adolescent reproductive and sexual health. Dr. Sugland has a Master of Public Health degree from UCLA School of Public Health and a Doctor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. Prior to founding CARTA, Dr. Sugland was the Area Director for Adolescent Childbearing Research at Child Trends, Inc.
Dr. Brindis is Professor of Pediatrics and Health Policy, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Adolescent Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is Executive Director of the National Adolescent Health Information Center and Associate Director of the Policy Information and Analysis Center for Middle Childhood and Adolescence; both organizations are sponsored by the Division of Adolescent Medicine and the Institute for Health Policy Studies (IHPS) and funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Brindis' research focuses on adolescent and child health policy, adolescent pregnancy and pregnancy prevention, adolescent health and risk-taking behaviors, reproductive health services for men and women, school-based and integrated health and social services, and women's health.
For the past 14 years, Lori Rolleri, MSW, MPH, has designed, implemented, managed and evaluated a variety of reproductive and sexual health curricula and programs for young people, parents, and professionals in the U.S. and Latin America. Currently, she serves as Senior Program Manager in the Department of Training and Program Development at ETR Associates in Scotts Valley, CA. In addition to serving as Project Director and Editor-in Chief for the Resource Center for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (ReCAPP) web site, she also directs the "Bridging Science and Practice" Technical Assistance Project funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the "Parent-Child Connectedness: Bridging Research and Intervention Design" Project funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Ms. Rolleri holds Master of Public Health and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS degree from Cornell University.
