NIH NIMH Online Training and Support for Effective Implementation of RTR

Description

The “RTRworks! Project” will develop and evaluate an online training to prepare high school teachers to effectively lead the Reducing the Risk (RTR) curriculum. Published by ETR, RTR is a 16-lesson, interactive curriculum to reduce sexual risk-taking in high school students. The project has three primary aims: 1) Develop the online training that provides interactive skills practice for leading role plays, lesson tips, activity models, and a variety of resources to prepare teachers to lead the entire curriculum (especially the role plays) with quality and high level of student engagement; 2) Recruit 250 high school teachers from the United States and territories to take part in the evaluation study; 3) Conduct a randomized, controlled trial with two groups – the intervention group participating in the online study prior and during their implementation of RTR, and the control group (community standard) that prepares to lead RTR using the curriculum materials. The study will evaluate teacher fidelity to RTR and student engagement using pre and post surveys, lesson logs, post-instruction interviews, audio recordings of instruction, and direct observation of instruction.
