keepin' it REAL
is now Considered Effective in all Prevention Categories!
keepin' it
REAL is now considered
to be an "indicated" program, which means it is considered effective
in all three categories of prevention programs as defined by
the Institute of Medicine (IOM) — universal,
selective, and indicated.
- As a universal program, keepin' it REAL may be delivered to an entire population, such as middle school
students.
- keepin' it REAL is considered a selective program because
it is considered to be effective with sub-groups that are thought
to be at-risk for substance abuse, such as those who are struggling
academically.
- As an indicated program, keepin'
it REAL is considered appropriate
to use with individuals who are exhibiting behaviors associated
with substance abuse but do not meet the clinical criteria for
substance addiction.
