ETR Associates, a private, non-profit, health education organization, is seeking a qualified person to join its Research Department as a Research Associate II.

Education, Training and Research (ETR) Associates is a national center for publications, training, research and clearinghouse services in family life, and comprehensive health education, substance abuse prevention, HIV/AIDS prevention and tobacco use education and prevention. ETR’s publishing division publishes and distributes curricula, books and pamphlets in these areas for schools, clinics and youth-serving organizations across the country.

Overview

The Research Associate II will work with the Senior Research Associates as well as other research staff in the timely accomplishment of varying research/evaluation activities. Current projects for which responsibility may be assigned include projects related to health promotion and youth development.

Responsibilities and Duties

    • Serves as Project Coordinator and/or assumes primary responsibility for carrying out the design and implementation of specific project activities, including, but not limited to: instrument development, literature reviews, needs assessments, content analysis, focus group interviews, classroom observations, and data collection/management/analysis.
    • Oversees Research Associate I, Research Assistant, and temporary staff on selected tasks.
    • Helps design and refine Department research protocols (e.g., publication processes).
    • Tracks and assesses status of research tasks for projects.
    • Interacts with funders, and/or serves as liaison with clients.
    • Prepares and/or monitors project budgets.
    • Prepares project reports (e.g., progress, annual, and final reports).
    • Assists with developing new project ideas and writing grant proposals.
    • Participates in writing research manuscripts for publication in professional journals.
    • Participates in department/agency long-range planning activities as requested.
    • Participates in professional activities as appropriate (e.g., takes classes to enhance expertise in assigned content areas, attends conferences, co-authors research manuscripts).
    • Provides technical assistance to ETR staff as needed.

    Other Responsibilities And Duties

    • Maintains positive relations with school district personnel; acts as a liaison between district and other ETR staff.
    • Facilitates qualitative and quantitative data collection.
    • Creates and monitors project timelines.

    Accountabilities

    • Completes research/evaluation tasks successfully and within specified deadlines.
    • Summarizes data from research projects appropriately in project reports/articles.
    • Prepares written materials for research activities (e.g., correspondence, research protocols) that are clear and well written.
    • Prepares and presents project reports within specified deadlines.
    • Ensures evaluation data are organized, entered, and analyzed accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Maintains effective communication with senior researchers, other project team members, program staff, and follows an agreed-upon protocol regarding contact with funders and clients.
    • Maintains complete and accurate documentation of project tasks.
    • Operates within budget parameters minimizing over-expenditures and extreme under-expenditures.
    • Adheres to agency budget and accounting procedures.
    • Participates willingly in agency planning and proposal writing.
    • Effectively mentors junior staff.
    • Functions as an effective member of ETR Project Team and Program Services Division.

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree or equivalent in Education, Program Evaluation, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related area; educational background in research and evaluation preferred.
    • At least 5 years post-Master’s experience with research and/or project coordination.
    • Ability to adapt to time line adjustments and reorganize work accordingly.
    • Responsible and able to follow through on all tasks with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage several tasks simultaneously.
    • Willingness to travel.
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytic, verbal, and writing skills.
    • Ability to manage and mentor junior staff successfully.
    • Experience in research and evaluation design, instrument development, quantitative and qualitative data collection/management/analysis; interview skills are required.
    • Proficiency in Word, SPSS, and Excel are desirable.
    • Valid California driver’s license; acceptable DMV record and proof of insurance required.
    Salary Range:           Commensurate with Experience. Full time. Grade level 5.  Exempt.
