New York City Requires Sexuality Education and Recommends ETR Associates' Curricula

The New York Times reported that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office announced that, beginning with this school year, the city's public middle and high schools will be required to teach a semester of sexuality education in sixth or seventh grade, and again in ninth or tenth grade. The administration is recommending that schools use ETR Associates' HealthSmart and Reducing the Risk curricula. A recent survey of principals throughout New York City found that 64% of middle schools currently use the HealthSmart curriculum.

Nationwide, 20 states and the District of Columbia mandate sexuality and HIV education in schools.
