The
purpose of this project is to build the capacity of health departments
and community-based organizations so that they are better equipped
to implement effective HIV prevention interventions for African Americans.
This work is essential because the HIV/AIDS epidemic is a major health
crisis among African Americans, affecting men and women of every age,
class and sexual orientation. The increasing rates of HIV infection
for African Americans offer compelling evidence that the strategies
used for prevention must not only incorporate the latest science but
be culturally specific to African Americans.
